Sometimes the needs of your business, or personal circumstances, will require staff to work different shifts from one week to the next.
Abacus allows you to book up to 4 different weekly patterns and rotate these weeks between any two chosen dates; this is referred to as a rotational shift pattern.
To schedule a rotational shift pattern, do the following:
- Click on the Staff button and select 'Schedule Shifts':

- Select a staff member from the list:

- Click on the 'Schedule' dropdown and select 'Regular Shift'.
This will display the Schedule Shifts page:

- Begin by selecting the start date and end date for the shift pattern.
- Pick the number of weeks the staff member's shift pattern needs to rate over.
For example: If the staff member works on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday one week, then Tuesdays and Thursdays the next week, you would select 'Repeat every 2 weeks'

- Select a shift from the list, or deselect the 'Use Stored Shift' checkbox and enter the start time and end time of the bespoke shift.
- Using the example above, click on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the grid to schedule the staff member's shifts for the first week of the rotational shift pattern.
- Click on the 'Week 2' tab.
- Using the same example, click on Tuesday and Thursday to schedule the staff member's shifts for the second week of the rotational booking pattern. You'll end up with something that looks like this:
- Once you have finished scheduling the staff member's shifts, click on the 'Save' button.
On the Staff Shifts page you will see the shifts you scheduled in the grid:

- You can click on the weeks in the calendar to see the staff member's rotational shift pattern:
