The development of the internet has brought both welcome convenience and unwanted challenges to our busy lives. While it provides us with fantastic access to information, facilitates remote work, and even enables instant online shopping, concerns about child safety, financial security, and the impact of screen time on the younger generation are growing.

The annual Safer Internet Day (SID), coordinated by the UK Safer Internet Centre, is on 6^th February and is dedicated to raising awareness about the risks associated with internet use and promoting a safer online environment for children and young people.

As a reminder, the updated statutory guidance issued under Section 29 of the CSTA 2015 (Prevent Duty), came into force on 31^st December 2023.

While there are no new legal duties or obligations to the Prevent Duty, there has been a slight shift in focus and some changes in the guidance. All schools and early years providers should continue to integrate their understanding of the Prevent Duty into their overall safeguarding responsibilities, as outlined in the 

Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines. The revisions provide clearer guidance, some additional practical advice and links to new resources and best practices.
