EYFS Profile Assessment


The EYFS Profile assessment allows you to accurately document the child's progress at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The assessment has been split into 4 sections:
  1. Section 1: Prime areas
  2. Section 2: Specific areas
  3. Section 3: Characteristics of Effective Learning
  4. Section 4: Statements of Learning & Development
You are able to choose which text boxes are included in sections 1 - 3 of this assessment in Settings > Configuration; by default there will be a separate text box for each EYFS area and aspect.

To create an EYFS Profile assessment, do the following:
  1.  Select the child you wish to create the assessment for.
  2.  Choose whether you would like the system to automatically complete parts of the assessment for you, and then click/tap on the 'Apply' button.
     The assessment form will be displayed:



    Section 1: Prime areas
    This section of the assessment is where you are able to comment on the child's progress in Communication & Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

  3. Select the assessment date; this will automatically show today's date but you can backdate the assessment if required.
  4. Enter your comments into the text boxes for each of the EYFS areas and aspects.
     These fields are mandatory and must be completed.
  5.  Select the age band you have assessed the child to be working in.
  6.  Assess the child's level of development by selecting the relevant Early Learning Goal. 
     You can view the Early Learning Goal for each EYFS aspect by clicking/tapping on the  button:



    Click/tap anywhere on the screen to close the pop-up.

  7.  If you need to review a child's progress whilst you are creating the assessment, you can do so by clicking/tapping on the 'View Progress' button in the top right-hand corner of each EYFS area section:



    This will open the 'Progress' window. For example:



    Simply click/tap on the EYFS aspect buttons to view the child's progress in each age band

    The segments of each donut chart are colour-coded to show the proportion of development matters which the child has been observed as emerging (red), developing (orange), secure (green) or not started (white). 

  8.  Once you have finished reviewing the child's progress, click/tap on the 'Close' button to return to the assessment form.
  9.  After completing this section of the assessment, click/tap on the 'Save and Continue' button.
     Alternatively, you can create a draft, which you can finish later, by clicking/tapping on the arrow next to the 'Save and Continue' button and choosing the 'Save as Draft' option.

    Section 2: Specific areas
    This section of the assessment is where you are able to comment on the child's progress in Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.



  10.  Enter your comments into the text boxes for each of the EYFS areas and aspects.
     These fields are mandatory and must be completed.
  11.  Select the age band you have assessed the child to be working in.
  12.  Assess the child's level of development by selecting the relevant Early Learning Goal. 
  13.  If you need to review a child's progress whilst you are creating the assessment, you can do so by clicking/tapping on the 'View Progress' button in the top right-hand corner of each EYFS area section.
  14.  After completing this section of the assessment, click/tap on the 'Save and Continue' button.
     Alternatively, you can create a draft, which you can finish later, by clicking/tapping on the arrow next to the 'Save and Continue' button and choosing the 'Save as Draft' option.

    Section 3: Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL)
    This section of the assessment is where you are able to comment on the child's progress in relation to the Characteristics of Effective Learning.



  15.  Enter your comments into the text boxes for each of the Characteristics of Effective Learning.
     These fields are mandatory and must be completed.
  16.  If you need to review a child's progress whilst you are creating the assessment, you can do so by clicking/tapping on the 'View Progress' button. The 'Progress' window will be displayed:



    Simply click/tap on the EYFS aspect buttons to view the child's progress. 

    The segments of each donut chart are colour-coded to show the percentage of observations for each of the characteristics.

  17.  Once you have finished reviewing the child's progress, click/tap on the 'Close' button to return to the assessment form.
  18.  After completing this section of the assessment, click/tap on the 'Save and Continue' button.
     Alternatively, you can create a draft, which you can finish later, by clicking/tapping on the arrow next to the 'Save and Continue' button and choosing the 'Save as Draft' option.

    Section 4: Statements of Learning & Development
    This section of the assessment is where you are able to add comments from the child's key person and say what you feel their next steps should be; the purpose of this section is to help Year 1 teachers understand the child's development and learning needs, which will assist them with the planning of activities when they begin school.
    This section is optional and can be skipped if you do not wish to enter any comments.



  19.  Enter a comment from the child's key person.
  20.  Enter a comment about what the child's next steps should be following on from this assessment.
  21.  Once the assessment has been shared with a child's parents/carers you can add any comments or feedback in the 'Parent/Carer Comment' box.
  22.  Click/tap on the 'Complete EYFS Profile' button. 
    Alternatively, you can create a draft, which you can finish later, by clicking/tapping on the arrow next to the 'Complete EYFS Profile' button and choosing the 'Save as Draft' option.
Depending on your permissions, this assessment will now be found either on the View Assessments page or the Awaiting Approval page.
